NATCHITOCHES -Dr. Patrice Moulton has been named vice president for student affairs at Northwestern State University. She has been acting vice president since September.

In her new role, Moulton will also oversee areas including the Departments of Student Activities and Organizations, Student Services, Residential Life, Public Safety and Transportation, Wellness and Recreation and Enrollment Management.

"Dr. Moulton has served in several capacities since coming to Northwestern, including faculty member, academic department head, administrator over several key areas, and acting vice president for Student Affairs. In every instance she has placed a priority on creating an environment conducive to student learning, development, and welfare," said NSU President Dr. Randall J. Webb. "Our students will continue to benefit under her new leadership role."

Over the past year, Moulton has overseen the implementation of Northwestern Express, a new program designed to bring together all areas of the campus community. . She has also supervised the transition to University Place, a new campus residence hall and the first year of operation at the Wellness, Recreation and Activity Center.

"I look forward to working together with Student Affairs staff, students, and other units across campus to develop an exciting living-learning environment," said Moulton. Students are the heart and soul of the university and serving them is at times a challenge, but always an honor. The staff of the Division of Student Affairs has creative plans for supporting the mission and vision of Northwestern State University. I hope to provide strong leadership for developing and implementing programs and services that will assist in creating environments that help students grow, develop, and learn, and that enhance the quality of their lives."

Moulton has been at NSU since 1996. She has served an assistant professor of clinical psychology and was head of the Department of Psychology from 1999-2002. Moulton has been director of University Planning and Assessment and EEO officer since 2002, assisting the president in the development of the University mission, vision, values and goals. In 2005, she was named executive director of institutional affairs, overseeing the Offices of Planning, Assessment and EEO, Enrollment Management, Institutional Research and Information Systems.

She has authored or co-authored more than two dozen publications in national, regional and state journals, has taken part in numerous professional presentations and has received funding for several grant proposals to assist the university. Moulton has co-authored six books.

Moulton has licensures and certifications including Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, National Board Certified Counselor, and is a Louisiana State Board Certified Substance Abuse Counselor.

She is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a bachelor's, master's and doctorate. Before joining Northwestern's faculty, Moulton was clinical director at Cane River Adolescent Hospital. Moulton has also been a strategic planner and Total Quality Management consultant with Bradford Associates in Bradford, Penn., a founder and private practitioner of Family Passages in Olean, N.Y., and a family specialist with the Cattaraugus County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse in Olean, N.Y. In addition, Moulton was a mental health clinician and A & D specialist with Pine Belt Mental Health Services in Laurel, Miss., and a staff counselor at the Hattiesburg (Miss.) Emergency Girls Shelter.
