FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES -Dr. Patrice Moulton has been named acting vice president for student affairs and executive director of institutional affairs. She replaces Dr. Dan Seymour as vice president for student affairs.

Moulton has been at NSU since 1996. She has served an assistant professor of clinical psychology and was head of the Department of Psychology from 1999-2002. Moulton has been director of University Planning and Assessment and EEO officer since 2002, assisting the president in the development of the University mission, vision, values and goals. Earlier this year, she was named executive director of institutional affairs, overseeing the Offices of Planning, Assessment and EEO, Enrollment Management, Institutional Research and Information Systems.

In her new role, Moulton will also oversee areas including the Departments of Student Activities and Organizations, Student Services, Public Safety and Transportation and Campus Ministries.

"Patrice has a keen interest in students and in helping the University retain students all the way to graduation. Her educational preparation, professional experience, and interpersonal skills should enable her to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students to promote a campus environment conducive to student development and success," said NSU President Dr. Randall J. Webb. "She has brought outstanding leadership to Northwestern in the areas of strategic planning and assessment, which have a major impact on the University's success in fulfilling its mission and pursuing reaffirmation of accreditation through the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools."

Moulton was a recipient of the 2003 Professional Service Award from the Louisiana Counseling Association.

She has authored or co-authored more than two dozen publications in national, regional and state journals, has taken part in numerous professional presentations and has received funding for several grant proposals to assist the university.

Moulton also helped create the Community Wellness Project at Northwestern. The Project was created to make available information on the latest techniques and strategies in prevention and awareness in the areas of HIV/AIDS, mental health disorders, substance abuse, violence, suicide, eating disorders and other health-related issues. The program was established in response to the statewide increase in high-risk behaviors that lead to teen pregnancy, substance abuse, violent crime, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS.

Before joining Northwestern's faculty, she was clinical director at Cane River Adolescent Hospital. Moulton has also been a strategic planner and Total Quality Management consultant with Bradford Associates in Bradford, Penn., a founder and
private practitioner of Family Passages in Olean, N.Y., and a family specialist with the Cattaraugus County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse in Olean, N.Y. In addition, Moulton was a mental health clinician and A & D specialist with Pine Belt Mental Health Services in Laurel, Miss., and a staff counselor at the Hattiesburg (Miss.) Emergency Girls Shelter.

She received a bachelor's, master's and doctorate at the University of Southern Mississippi.
