FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES-Dr. Patrice Moulton has been named director of university assessment and planning and EEO officer at Northwestern State University.

Moulton is responsible for tracking accreditation at NSU. She will monitor the accreditation self-study process, all university assessment processes and selected university assessments. Moulton will also oversee the Office of Institutional Research, serve as liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and deal with all formal and informal equal employment opportunity grievances.

In addition, she will work on special projects, and co-direct the Community Wellness Project and the Louisiana Addiction Technology Transfer Center Coordinating Center at NSU. Moulton will also serve on the President's Cabinet.

"I want to help create a culture of assessment where it is a way of life at the university," said Moulton. "The process will start through unit planning to align with strategic plans for departments which relate to the vision and goals for the university."

Northwestern has begun the process of preparing for reaffirmation of accreditation by SACS.

"We have begun preparing for that in a proactive way and will provide support during the process," said Moulton. "We want to maintain lines of communication with faculty and staff and have a positive relationship as we accomplish our goals. A lot of people are working extremely hard on this. We have an incredible faculty and staff who are ready and willing to change and take on the challenge of strategic planning."

Moulton served as head of the Department of Psychology at NSU since 2000. She was acting department head in 1999-2000.

As department head, Moulton supervised and helped prepare the Graduate Research and Design (GRAD), an interdisciplinary research group that has made presentations for conferences and produced several publications. Moulton was active professionally authoring or co-authoring publications in national, regional and state journals, has taken part in dozens of professional presentations and has received funding for numerous grant proposals.

Before joining Northwestern's faculty in 1996, she was clinical director at Cane River Adolescent Hospital. Moulton has also been a strategic planner and Total Quality Management consultant with Bradford Associates in Bradford, Penn., a founder and
private practitioner of Family Passages in Olean, N.Y., and a family specialist with the Cattaraugus County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse in Olean, N.Y. In addition, Moulton was a mental health clinician and A & D specialist with Pine Belt Mental Health Services in Laurel, Miss., and a staff counselor at the Hattiesburg (Miss.) Emergency Girls Shelter.

Moulton was an adjunct faculty member at St. Bonaventure University and a faculty member at Jamestown (N.Y.) Community College.
