NATCHITOCHES - Dr. Martha V. Henderson, professor and head of the Media-Serials Division in Watson Library at Northwestern State University has been named vice-chair/chair elect of the Unit Accreditation Board of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Henderson was selected by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education and is one of 10 AACTE members serving on the board which is composed of 32 members representing college professors, K-12 teachers, state departments of education, professional associations, and chief school officials.
The Unit Accreditation Board determines the accreditation status of professional education units at colleges and universities. It is responsible for developing standards and procedures for the accreditation process and for overseeing the on-site visits and training of the Board of Examiners.
As vice-chair/chair elect Henderson also serves on the NCATE Executive Board. In addition, she is chair of the Board of Examiners Committee and is an ex-officio member of the NCATE Standards Committee. As part of her duties, Henderson recently attended NCATE board meetings in Washington, D.C.
