FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES- A meeting to discuss making college courses available at Natchitoches Central High School will be held Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m. at the NCHS Atrium. The meeting is for parents of interested current high school juniors.
This semester, NSU is making college classes available to students in Grant, LaSalle, Red River and Winn parishes through its High School Articulation Initiative. The courses use faculty who meet all requirements to teach as an adjunct at Northwestern. Class offerings at Natchitoches Central will depend upon student interest and the availability of qualified faculty.
High school seniors who meet all requirements can take the classes at a reduced cost from Northwestern's regular tuition rates. Those taking classes are considered NSU students and have access to the university library.
Eligibility requirements for the program currently include a 2.75 cumulative grade point average, a composite score of 18 on the ACT, a score of 18 on the English section (for English 1010 only), a score of 19 on the math section (for Math 1020 only) and the recommendation of the school principal. Students must also submit an undergraduate application for admission, proof of immunization and pay the $20 application fee.
"We feel this is an outstanding program which benefits the students and the University," said Susan Moak Nealy, coordinator of the Carl D. Perkins Program at NSU, who oversees the initiative. "Students get a head start on college while still being in the comfort of their local school."
