NATCHITOCHES - Dr. Ray Wallace, Dr. Rocky Colavito and Susan Lewis-Wallace, faculty members in the Department of Language and Communication at Northwestern State University, presented research at the recent First National Conference on Teaching and Learning Through the Internet in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The NSU faculty participated in a panel, "Re-Enfranchising the Information Underclass: Using the Internet in Developmental Reading and Writing Classrooms," which focused on practical suggestions for college teachers implementing Internet-based technology in their classes for the first time.

The presentations ranged from critical thinking strategies to training the faculty to use the Internet effectively. Colavito focused on faculty training. Wallace discussed using the Internet to advance literacy and critical thinking. Lewis-Wallace examined available on-line resources to aid in critical thinking and writing.

More than 400 researchers and teachers attended the conference. NSU was the only Louisiana institution represented.
