NATCHITOCHES- Classes in basic skin and scuba diving, water aerobics and an arts and crafts workshop for adults will be offered by Northwestern State University's Office of Continuing Education.

The basic skin and scuba diving course will give students an understanding of safe skin and scuba diving as well as proper use of equipment. Registration will be on Wednesday June 4. Classes will be on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. through July 16 in Room 106 of Williamson Hall.

Open water experience is optional for completion of the course but is required for scuba diver certification. Information about open water experience available to students will be provided at the appropriate time.

Tuition for the class is $90 plus $135 for rental equipment, $50 for books and materials and a certification fee.

A summer arts and crafts workshop for adults will start June 6. NSU art instructors Clyde Downs, Books DeFee and Jennifer Rusek will offer a series of workshops in oil, acrylic and watercolor painting. Classes are open to those 18 and over. The workshops will last two days and will consist of a Friday afternoon class which will discuss the fundamentals of painting in the selected media and an all-day session on Saturday in which students will paint in the Kisatchie National Forest or along Cane River. Instruction will range from beginning level to more advanced for students with experience.

Downs will teach oil painting on June 6-7 and 27-28. Rusek will offer a course on acrylic painting June 13-14 with DeFee teaching watercolor on June 20-21.

There is a fee of $150 per course plus supplies.

A class on water aerobics will start Monday, June 16. The class will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Nesom Natatorium. The fee for the class, which will run through Aug. 1, is $75.
