NATCHITOCHES -The Office of Continuing Education at Northwestern State University will offer a full set of non-credit courses in September.
A course on basic skin and scuba diving will be offered on Thursdays from Sept. 6 through Oct. 4. The class will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Room 106 of Williamson Hall. The fee for the course is $90 plus $135 for equipment rental and $50 for books and materials. Open water experience is optional for completion of the course but is required for scuba diver certification. Information about open water experience available to students will be provided at the appropriate time during the course.
A notary public certification course for those in Natchitoches, Sabine and Red River parishes will begin Sept. 10. The class will be taught on Mondays through Oct. 30 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Room 217 of Russell Hall. Students will receive an overview of Louisiana Civil Law as it applies to being a notary public. The fee for the class is $80 plus an optional $50 book fee.
Students can learn the basics of country-western dance in a class which begins Sept. 10. The class will be on Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. through Oct. 15 and will be held in Room 127 of the Health and Human Performance Building. Participants will learn basic rhythm, leading, following, step, patterns and turns in two-step and three-step. The fee is $70. Those taking part must be at least 18 and have a dance partner.
Elementary Japanese will be the subject of a class which will begin Monday Sept. 10. The course will be taught on Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in Room 218 of Russell Hall through Nov. 12.
There is a $50 fee for the class. Participants will gain an idea of how to speak conversational Japanese and how the Japanese alphabet is set up. Students will also learn general information about Japan and its people.
The basics of medical technology will presented in a class beginning Tuesday, Sept. 11. The class will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings through Oct. 4 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. in Room 224 of Russell Hall on NSU's Natchitoches campus. There is a $300 fee for the course.
In the course, students will be prepared to recognize and understand basic medical terminology by teaching them key word parts associated with body systems, disorders, conditions and procedures. The course will also include methods to decipher difficult medical terms by breaking them down into basic components. This course is a prerequisite for medical coding.
