NATCHITOCHES -Northwestern State University's Office of Electronic and Continuing Education will offer several short courses in October.
Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement consists of 3-hour sessions that cover important money management concepts with practical, easy-to-understand language. Topics include investment basics and types of products that are suitable for retirement planning, retirement lifestyle issues, lowering your income taxes, risk management, proper estate planning methods and developing a personal financial plan. The class will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 26-Nov. 11 at the Learning Center for Rapides Parish (England Airpark Base), Room 164. Robert L. Harger Jr. will be the instructor. The fee is $55.
Participants in MS PowerPoint 2003 will learn to create slide shows and presentations with toolbars, text formatting, slides, clip art, word art and bulleted lists. Students will also learn to apply design templates, create backgrounds, insert objects, text frames, tables and charts, apply transitions and set timing, animate frames and present slides shows. The class will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 in Williamson Hall, Room 103. The fee is $99. Gene Hatcher will be the instructor.
Fall Gardening with Bulbs will give participants instruction on what kind of bulbs do best in certain areas, how to plant bulbs and where to get good bulbs with tips on fertilizer, winter care, when to expect bulbs to sprout and which bulbs mix well with other bulbs and plants. The course will also provide information about disease, pests, watering, soil types, using bulbs as ground covers and more. Participants will take home many hand-outs and printed information as a reference. The class will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Room 203 of Russell Hall. Gale Trussell will be the instructor.
