NATCHITOCHES -Northwestern State University's Office of Electronic and Continuing Education will begin its fall schedule of non-credit classes in August with courses on medical coding, kenpo karate and beginning guitar.
A class on ICD-9 Medical Coding Training for Certification will begin on Saturday, Aug. 26 and will be held on alternating Saturdays from 9 a.m until 3:30 p.m. in Room 103 of Williamson Hall. The fee for the class is $600 which includes books.
The course will offer an overview of the ICD classification system and steps required for correct coding of diagnosis, inpatient and outpatient as well as inpatient procedural coding.
A class on kenpo karate beginning Tuesday, Aug. 29. The course will be taught until Dec. 7 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in Room 127 of the Health and Human Performance Building.
Kenpo karate teaches how to maneuver so that the opponent is unwittingly placed in a vulnerable position. It employs kicks, punches, blocks, judo, throws, locks, takedowns and more. Kenpo karate can help develop coordination, discipline and self-confidence.
Each age group will be divided into advanced and beginners.
The fee for the course is $65 for children and $75 for adults.
Beginning guitar is being offered beginning Thursday, Aug. 31
and will be taught on Thursdays from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at
the NSU Middle Lab School in Pod A of Northwestern's Teacher Education
Center. The fee for the class is $49 plus a $5 material fee.
The class will teach basic cord structure. Students will compile a book of songs for beginning guitar players to keep. A major emphasis will be on learning major and minor chords and playing for enjoyment.
