NATCHITOCHES- NSU PREP, a practitioner teacher program, will hold an Informational Open House Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Teacher Education Center Auditorium on the Northwestern State University campus.
The event is open to anyone interested in the program. Requirements for NSU PREP include a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
According to NSU Prep Enrollment Coordinator April Matt, those attending will receive details on Northwestern's teacher certification programs. During the Open House, there will be a NSU PREP program overview, information on submitting an application to NSU PREP and PRAXIS testing and registration. Information on available financial aid and coursework required to complete the NSU PREP program will also be discussed.
Northwestern's College of Education has been working on PREP for the past three years. The university recently received a National Teacher's Program grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents to expand its reach.
The university is looking to place teachers, especially those in mathematics, science and special education, in school systems in Catahoula, Concordia, DeSoto, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, Vernon and Winn parishes.
