NATCHITOCHES-Fran P. Mainella, director of the National Park Service, will visit Natchitoches Tuesday.
Mainella will visit the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, the Cane River Creole National Historical Park and the Creole Heritage Center at Northwestern State University during her visit. The Creole Heritage Center receives funding from the Cane River National Heritage Area.
The first woman to head the National Park Service, Mainella has more than 30 years experience in park and recreation management. She served as director of Florida's Division of Recreation and Parks.
Mainella has served as executive director of the Florida Recreation and Park Association and as president of the National Recreation and Park Association and the National Association of State Park Directors.
In Louisiana, the National Park Service operates the Cane River Creole National Historical Park, Cane River National Heritage Area, National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve and the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park.
