NATCHITOCHES - Tanya McDaniel of Lake Charles received the Lawrence Siegel Research Award for a paper presentation at the 50th annual Louisiana Psychological Association Convention held in Lafayette.

McDaniel, a graduate student in clinical psychology at Northwestern State University, was honored for her paper, "An Analysis of the Relationship Between Self-esteem, Approval Motivation, and Alcohol Behaviors with Greek Organizations."

Two other NSU graduate students in clinical psychology, Angela Whittington of Natchitoches and Christie Dupuis of Opelousas, also submitted papers for the Siegel Award.

Whittington's paper was titled "Self-esteem, Approval Motivation and Race as Predictors of Alcohol Use Among Students." Dupuis submitted a paper, "Greek Affiliation, Living Arrangement and Class Standing as Predictors of College Student Drinking."

McDaniel, Dupuis and Whittington teamed up with Assistant Professor of Psychology Dr. Patrice Moulton and fellow graduate student Keith Bailey of Winnfield on a 90-minute presentation, "A Practical Review of Prevention Techniques for High-risk Adolescent Behaviors."
