NATCHITOCHES - The Carl Perkins Program and the College of Business at Northwestern State University are sponsoring an informational seminar for the Office 2000 Program Saturday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. in Room 113 of Russell Hall on NSU's Natchitoches campus.
During the seminar, details of the Office 2000 Program will be explained and Deborah Caron will be available to provide career counseling.
The Office 2000 Program is an educational outreach program available to continuing and entering students. The goal of the program is to prepare students to successfully complete requirements for Microsoft Certification in Word and Excel. To meet this goal, participants will enroll in many of the courses required for the Associate Degree in Office Administration offered by Northwestern.
Those who complete the Office 2000 program would be qualified to seek employment in legal, government, medical, maintenance and other service industries along with a variety of businesses.
Pre-enrollment and admission assistance is available along with academic, career and personal counseling. Other help in the form of textbooks, workshops and peer assistance, support group, tutoring and mentoring is also available. Limited tuition assistance is also available to those who qualify. Financial aid in the form of loans, grants or work-study jobs may also be available.
Those who apply for the program must: be a single parent or displaced worker, have dependent children and meet other criteria such as low pay, slow advancement, unemployment or under employment. Participants must bring documents to prove eligibility such as income tax forms, a marriage license or divorce decree and birth certificates of dependent children.
Office 2000 is divided into three phases that track the spring, summer and fall semester. Phase one begins in January.
