FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - Melanie McBride of Natchitoches, a senior health and exercise major at Northwestern State University has been awarded the Patrick W. Halloran Scholarship. The award was made by the National Order of Omega.

The scholarship is named in honor of Halloran, the first executive director of the Order of Omega. The group's scholarship program was established to recognize participation and leadership in campus organizations, citizenship and service to the Order of Omega and the campus Greek system.

"I was really excited to receive this award," said McBride, a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. "I have tried to be involved in as many campus activities and organizations as I could since I started at Northwestern. Getting involved is a big key to success."

Approximately three percent of those in Greek organizations are selected for the Order of Omega. Northwestern has had scholarship recipients selected by the Order of Omega for seven of the past eight years.

"This record of achievement is a credit to the system at Northwestern and the type of undergraduates that are in the system, the organizations and the overall Greek community," said Reatha Cox, province advisor for the Order of Omega. "Melanie won this award by competing against the best of the best. She was selected from an exclusive group."

McBride has been a freshman connector at NSU and is also a member of Gamma Sigma Alpha. She has also held a number of leadership positions in Sigma Sigma Sigma.
