NATCHITOCHES ­ Northwestern State University will hold a session of its Freshman Connection program inNorthwestern State University's Office of New Student Programs will hold a session of its Freshman Connection orientation program on the university's Natchitoches campus July 14-15.

The two-day program is designed to welcome new students to the NSU campus and give them personal support and guidance to help make a successful transition to university life.

Registration for the program begins July 14 at 7:30 a.m. Freshman Connection begins at 9:30 a.m. The fee for the program is $75.

"Freshman Connection is an important first-step for students attending Northwestern," said Coordinator of New Student Programs Quincy Spencer. "Those who have attended the previous sessions have given us good evaluations and have told us they received a great deal of useful information."

During Freshman Connection, the incoming students will become familiar with the Northwestern campus and available resources at the University. A team of current NSU students, Freshman Connectors, will be available to answer questions and provide the perspective of a current student.

The new students will participate in small group sessions, which can answer a number of questions and reduce some of the anxiety about starting college. They will also meet with an academic advisor who can help plan a class schedule and register for classes.

Student can also take students will be able to take the COMPASS Placement Exam at a cost of $20. This exam is for students who are currently placed in developmental exams. The exam is designed to place students into appropriate entry-level English and math courses or into developmental courses.

Along with Freshman Connection, a program for parents, Parents Connection, and a program for students' younger brothers and sisters, Kid Konnection will also be held. Students in the Louisiana Scholars' College can also participate in an orientation program designed with their specific needs in mind.

Parent Connection will help parents become more familiar with college life, so they can manage the time of change, growth, fun and exploration their children experience when attending college. Special presentations will help family members assist in their student's transition to NSU by becoming familiar with the university and its resources.

Kid Konnection will help younger siblings become familiar with college life, so they can understand what their older brother or sister goes through as they begin college. Participants in Kid Konnection tour NSU's campus, visit a residence hall, make fun arts and crafts and experience other fun activities.

The fee for Parent Connection is $10 for each participant. Kid Connection is $20 per child.
