NATCHITOCHES-Six Northwestern State University students were inducted into the campus chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honor society. The students are Belinda Diehl of Leesville, Jada Hendrix of Gloster, Tamara Miller of Bossier City, Ciel Dafford of Lafayette, Stacey Dawson of Tioga, Sharon Johnson and Amanda Franks, both of Walker. Johnson and Walker are mother and daughter.

An induction ceremony and reception was held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Watson Library on the NSU campus.

Phi Alpha Theta was founded at the University of Arkansas in 1921. The international society has 820 active chapters and 275,000 members. NSU's Pi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta was founded in 1934 and is one of the oldest chapters in the country. Inductees must have at least 12 hours of history and maintain at least a 3.1 grade point average in their history courses and a 3.0 overall GPA.

NSU's Phi Alpha Theta chapter sponsors film nights for students interested in history in film and gatherings for faculty and students in NSU's history and anthropology programs. They are currently planning several field trips to places of historical interest and are preparing for their annual spring banquet in April, which will feature a visiting lecturer, according to Dr. Susan Dollar, faculty sponsor.
