NATCHITOCHES - The Pi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society at Northwestern State University will hold its annual banquet Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at Merci Beaucoup Restaurant on Church Street in Natchitoches.
Tickets are $20. The public is invited to attend.
The banquet speaker is Dr. George Gawrych, associate
professor of history at Baylor University. His topic is "History
and the War in Iraq."
Gawrych earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan
in 1980 and has an extensive record as a teacher and scholar.
Before accepting his appointment at Baylor in 2003, Gawrych
taught at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Ft.
Leavenworth, Kan., and had been visiting professor of history
at the United States Military Academy at West Point, N. Y.
Among his most notable publications are "The
Crescent and the Eagle: Ottoman Rule, Islam and the Albanians,
1874-1913," "The Albatross of Decisive Victory: War
and Policy between Egypt and Israel in the 1967 and 1973 Arab-Israeli
Wars" and "The 1973 Arab-Israeli War: The Albatross
of Decisive Victory."
A Fulbright Scholar, Gawrych was awarded the Outstanding
Civilian Service Medal by Department of the Army in 2003.
