FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES The NSU Concert Percussion Ensemble and the Ragtime Marimba Band will present a concert Tuesday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Ken Green is the conductor.
The Ragtime Marimba Band will perform several arrangements by George Hamilton Green, which includes music from the 1920's era.
"Green was one of the virtuosos of his day. His works can be difficult to perform but are very entertaining," said Green.
The Percussion Ensemble will perform several works including Crown of Thorns by David Maslanka, Youth in Asia by Mike Myers and The First Circle by Pat Metheny.
According to Green Crown of Thorns is a "master work for percussionists."
Youth in Asia is a work influenced by progressive rock performed by artists such as Frank Zappa. The song will feature NSU faculty member Andrej Kurti on electric violin.
Faculty member Burt Allen will be featured on vocals on The First Circle and Andrew Goodrich will be featured on flugelhorn.
"This works we will perform will provide an opportunity to showcase our percussion students," said Green. "Those of you who saw the Caribbean number in the Christmas Gala will also enjoy this. We will kick it up a notch and provide an entertaining program."
