NATCHITOCHES ­One of the world's most respected virtuoso trumpeters, Crispian Steele-Perkins, will present a recital at Northwestern State University Monday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Perkins will be accompanied by pianist Irina Feoktistova.

The recital is sponsored by the Mrs. H.D. Dear Sr. and Alice Estelle Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts, Crown Music Productions and Hyperion Records.

Perkins has made concerto and solo appearances all over the globe. He began his career as orchestral musician in the English National Opera and Royal Philharmonic. His playing has been heard by millions in films (the James Bond series, Gandhi, Jaws, Batman, and many others) and on television.

Perkins collects and restores historic trumpets and is principal trumpet of the Kings Consort. He has recorded with The Academy of Ancient Music, Collegium Musicum 90, The Taverner Players, Tafelmusic, the English Baroque Soloists and the Parley of Instruments. Perkins has accompanied an extraordinarily wide variety of singers, including Sir Harry Secombe, Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Bob Geldof, Kate Bush, Elaine Paige, Chris Rea and Lulu.

During his career, he has recorded with Kiri te Kanawa, Lynne Dawson, Sylvia McNair, Emma Kirkby, James Bowman, Bryn Terfel and Olaf Bar. He also gives frequent masterclasses. Perkins' largest audience was when he performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto at the Edinburgh Festival for an audience of 133,000.

The program will include works from the 17th century through the 19th century by John James, G.F. Handel, Sir Henry Bishop, Jeremiah Clarke, Johann N. Hummel, G. Donizetti, A. Stradella and Mozart.
