FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES-Construction on a new Facility Service Complex at Northwestern State University will begin this spring. The new facility will house the relocated offices of the Physical Plant, which include administrative offices, trade shops, central receiving warehouse and property control office. The site for the complex is in the farm area on South Jefferson.

"This new facility will be smaller, but a more efficient design for facility management and operations and the 75 employees in these areas," Physical Plant Director Chris Sampité said.

The existing Physical Plant facility will be torn down to make way for a renovation and expansion project for the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts.

"We hope this sets the foundation for future projects to call for the relocation of the grounds, automotive and carpenter shops so we can all be in one location," Sampité said. "Communications and coordination has always been a challenge in managing our campus facilities. Many of our buildings are old and unsightly and need to be relocated to enhance the campus environment while providing with improved facilities."

The move has been part of the campus master plan for many years, Sampité said. Plans are underway for an extension of South Jefferson to the Highway 1 Bypass to keep large delivery trucks off main campus streets.

"We look forward to the move and to creating an improved campus environment," Sampité said.

"This is another step for facilities personnel to continue to enhance the campus and services for faculty, staff and students," said Vice President of University Affairs John Dilworth. Dilworth and Sampité credited Rep. Taylor Townsend and Sen. Mike Smith for their work in securing funds for the project.
