NATCHITOCHES - Clarence Frank, Jr. has been selected as the first recipient of the Clyde Bostick, Jr. Memorial Scholarship at Northwestern State University. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a member of the Gamma Rho Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a professional music honor fraternity. Bostick, a Gamma Rho alumnus, established the scholarship with a portion of his estate.
Frank, a senior music education major from Baytown, Texas, is the principal cellist in the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra. He is music director of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Frank is also secretary-elect of Theta Chi Fraternity, representative-at-large on the Student Activities Board and president of the NSU chapter of the American String Teachers' Association.
A graduate of Ross S. Sterling High School in Baytown, Frank is also a member of the NSU Concert Choir and Men's Chorus. His other campus activities include membership in the Baptist Student Union, Music Educators' National Conference, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and National Order of Omega Honor Fraternity. He also was a freshman connector for two years.
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia also recently selected its officers for the 1998-99 school year. Jason McGregor of Longview, Texas will serve as president, Randall Schultz of New Orleans is vice president with Eric Zelasko of Houma serving as secretary. Brian Coatney of Arlington, Texas will be treasurer, Matt Rotrock of Port St. Lucie, Fla. will be historian and David Beaver of Arlington, Texas was elected alumni secretary. Abraham Anthony of Marrero was chosen fraternity education officer while Randel Babin of Houma will be warden/parliamentarian.
The chapter will assist in hosting a state-wide trumpet festival later this year and will also develop a music program for local elementary schools.
