FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES- World terrorism is on the minds of most Americans each day. Two Northwestern State University faculty members have contributed to a textbook on terrorism published by a leading educational publisher. NSU political scientists Dr. Alex Aichinger and Dr. Greg Granger along with Aichinger's wife, Karen, were among the contributors to "Debating the War on Terrorism" by Robert P. Watson and Tom Landsford. The book is published by Kendall/Hunt.

The Aichingers discussed the Department of Homeland Security in a chapter, "Is a Change in Bureaucratic Structure Sufficient to Combat the Terrorism Threat?" Karen Aichinger took a position in favor of the Department while Alex Aichinger opposed it.

Granger examined both sides of the issue "Whether NATO Should Make Counter-Terrorism its Overriding Mission?' Granger pointed out countering terrorism was an issue that all NATO members could agree on. But there were also important security issues for the organization to deal with including assisting emerging democracies in Eastern Europe and the ongoing need to provide a balance to Russia and China.

"Debating the War on Terrorism" is available at www.kendallhunt.com.

A paper by Granger was published in the proceedings of a conference assessing foreign policy under President George W. Bush. The conference was held at the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast campus in Long Beach, Miss. Granger's paper, "The Paradox of Unilateralism: An Early Assessment of the George W. Bush Administration's Approach to Arms Control" examined the administration's stance on arms control and nuclear weapons policy.

The paper is online at http://www.unc.edu/depts/diplomat/archives_roll/2003_04-06/granger_paradox/granger_paradox.html
