FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -Northwestern State University's Practitioner Program, Preparing Responsive Educators Program (PREP), has been chosen for inclusion in a U.S. Department of Education study.
The study, contracted to Mathematica, a nationally known research group, will examine preparation of teachers by traditional four-year degrees and alternate certification programs, both extended and fast track. Northwestern's PREP was judged to be an appropriately promising program for inclusion in the study.
"It is quite an honor for our practitioner program to have been selected from a nationwide pool for participation," said program coordinator Dr. Linda Easley Roach. "The results of the study will inform us of our strengths and weaknesses. We can make program changes to capitalize on our strengths and improve our weaknesses."
The research will begin early in March and will compare student achievements of teachers prepared by the "fast track" program for the last three years to teachers prepared by the traditional four-year degree program for the last three years.
