NATCHITOCHES- The NSU PREP program at Northwestern
State University has set a priority application deadline of Wednesday,
March 31 for aspiring teachers who wish to begin the program during
the summer semester,
NSU PREP is recruiting outstanding professionals interested
in teaching elementary, middle, secondary, and special education
to participate in the NSU Practitioner Teacher Program while they
serve as teachers in schools that need them most. The program
is looking for degreed professionals from a variety of careers,
as well as recent college graduates, to bring their experience,
knowledge and records of achievement to public schools in north/central
Louisisana.
According to NSU Prep Enrollment Coordinator April Matt, applications are being accepted through May, but those applicants who meet the priority application deadline will be in better position to gain interviews with school districts who have teaching vacancies.
Requirements for NSU PREP include a bachelor's degree from
a regionally accredited college or university by May 31, 2004
and a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Those who want to enroll
in NSU PREP must also pass the Praxis I reading, writing and mathematics
test and the Praxis II Subject Area test. They must also submit
an application for enrollment in PREP, a resume and application
for admission to NSU's Graduate School. Official transcripts from
all colleges and universities attended are also required.
