NATCHITOCHES-Nothing is going to keep Barbara Prescott from reaching a goal. "Once I start something, I finish it," says the recent graduate of Northwestern State University.
Beginning in the fall of 1995, Prescott started taking classes while working full time in the Registrar's office as the client services coordinator, where she has worked for the past 13 years.
"I deal with student academic records and counsel students from everything to admissions to graduation," said Prescott, who is from Sikes. "I enjoy working with the students and the great administration we have at NSU makes for a great working environment."
Prescott says after raising her three sons she decided to continue her education.
Taking a few classes "here and there", Prescott graduated last Friday with a 3.759 grade point average in general studies. Prescott also has an associate degree in criminal justice.
"I feels good to have accomplished one of my stepping stones," said Prescott. "If anyone were having doubts about attending college, I would tell them 'Look at me. It can be done!'"
In the fall, Prescott will begin Northwestern's master's program in student personnel services.
Prescott has been married to Doug Prescott, a detective with the University Police at NSU for 13 years. She has three sons: Terry Hatten; Charlie Hatten, 23; and Mike Hatten, 21. Prescott also has two grandchildren: Kaitlin, 3 and Ethan 7 months.
