NATCHITOCHES-The Louisiana Association for Academic Competition will sponsor the 12th annual High School Quiz Bowl State Championship at Northwestern State University Saturday, April 5. Competition will be held in Kyser Hall and the Friedman Student Union on the NSU campus. Students from 17 high schools will be competing, according to tournament director Abby Landry.
Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. The final three rounds will be held in the Ora G. Williams Studio (Room 142) in Kyser Hall beginning at 3:30 p.m. Doug Joubert will serve as moderator.
Participating schools are Alexandria Senior High, Rummel, Barbe, Beau Chene, Bolton, Boothville-Venice, Breaux Bridge, Brother Martin and Bunkie.
Also competing for the state championship are: Buras, Caddo Magnet, Catholic of Baton Rouge, Cedar Creek, DeQuincy, Destrehan, Episcopal and Florien.
Competing schools are divided into four divisions based on school size. The top four schools in each division will be state champions. These four teams will then compete to determine which school will win the Jerry Hickman Award and represent the state of Louisiana in the Panasonic Academic Challenge in June. Vandebilt Catholic won the competition last year.
Members of the faculty and staff from Watson Library as well as university faculty, staff, alumni and other volunteers will serve as timekeepers, scorekeepers and moderators for the event.
