FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - Katie Quebedeaux of Marksville is one of three recipients of the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters' Scholarship. Quebedeaux is a senior news broadcast major at Northwestern State University. The scholarships are awarded annually to students enrolled full-time in a four-year Louisiana college or university pursuing a career in broadcasting.

As one of the recipients of the LAB's three scholarships, Quebedeaux will receive $1,000 for the fall 2005 semester and $1,000 for the spring 2006 semester, as long as she remains in the required criteria.

Applicants for the scholarship must be a junior or senior with at least a 2.5 grade point average. As part of the application process, Quebedeaux was asked 10 questions related to broadcast journalism and required to answer them in a three-page essay. She also listed extra curricular activities and community involvement and provided letters of recommendation.

Quebedeaux and the other recipients were recognized during the LAB's Prestige Awards Luncheon, held during the organization's annual meeting in March, where she networked with professional broadcast journalists.

At Northwestern, Quebedeaux is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and works with the university television studio, NSU-22, in production and as a back-up anchor. She has been a deejay for the university radio station, KNWD, and a contributing writer for the student newspaper, The Current Sauce. Quebedeaux praised the broadcast curriculum at NSU for giving her an advantage over other applicants.

"The hands-on work that we do at Northwestern is important. It's not just going to class," she said.

Quebedeaux is the daughter of Terry Quebedeaux and Joy Laborde-Barbin, both of Marksville.
