NATCHITOCHES ­ Thirty-one Louisiana high schools will compete in the 14th Annual High School Quiz Bowl State Championship Saturday, April 16 at Northwestern State University. The event is sponsored by the Louisiana Association for Academic Competition.

Schools will compete in four divisions based on size. The division champions will compete in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. The winners advance to the championship at 3:30 p.m. The semifinals and finals will be held in the Ora G. Williams Studio (Room 142) of Kyser Hall.

The overall champion will compete in the Panasonic Academic Challenge in Orlando, Fla., in June.

Qualifying schools include: Anacoco High, Barbe High and St. Louis Catholic High of Lake Charles, Baton Rouge Magnet, Belle Chasse High, Bolton High and Holy Savior Menard of Alexandria and Boothville-Venice High.

Also participating in the Quiz Bowl are: Brother Martin High, Isadore Newman High and Jesuit High of New Orleans, Byrd High and Caddo Magnet High of Shreveport, Catholic High, University Lab and Family Christian Academy of Baton Rouge, Catholic High of New Iberia, Destrehan High and Episcopal School of Acadiana of Cade.

This year's qualifiers also include: Evans High, Florien High, Jennings High, Minden High, Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau, St. Frederick High of Monroe, St. Martin's Episcopal High of Metairie, St. Mary's High of Natchitoches, Sulphur High, Tensas Academy of St. Joseph, Vandebilt Catholic of Houma and Zachary High.
