FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES-Ruth A. Rasmussen, a senior psychology major at Northwestern State University, has been chosen as a recipient of the George C. Marshall ROTC Award and will join senior U.S. government officials at a seminar to be conducted April 15-18 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va.
Rasmussen earned the opportunity to participate in the event by being the top Army ROTC cadet at NSU. At the seminar, she will have the opportunity to directly interact with the key leaders in attendance and discuss a variety of issues directly bearing on national security. Rasmussen has assembled an impressive list of accomplishments while still in college. In addition to serving as the cadet battalion commander for the Army ROTC unit, she has been on the Dean's List for three semesters and the President's List for two semesters.
Rasmussen, who is from Yakima, Wash., is scheduled to be a Distinguished Military Graduate which places her in the top 10 percent among military graduates nationally.
President George W. Bush addressed last year's seminar, emphasizing the importance of the event
The theme for the seminar is the transformation of the international security environment and the role of the U.S. military. In roundtable discussions, led by internationally recognized experts, the cadets will explore the implications of recent world events in the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and Israel. Methods of countering global terrorism and increasing homeland security will also be addressed in detail.
