Funding for the grants comes from a Trust Fund established with money from a settlement of disputed oil and gas revenues generated in the 8(g) section of the Federal Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. Each year 75 percent of the interest earned and 75 percent of the recurring oil and gas revenues are placed in a Support Fund for appropriation by the Legislature.
