NATCHITOCHES - Amber Rhyne, the featured twirler for the "Spirit of Northwestern" Marching Band recently competed in the America's Youth on Parade World Open Baton Twirling Championships. The competition was held at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Rhyne, a sophomore from Macon, Ga., placed in the top five in the flag competition and in the top 10 in several events.

She has been competing for 15 years, winning titles on the state, regional and national levels. Rhyne is the reigning Miss Majorette and State Twirling Champion. She competed in the Miss Louisiana Pageant this summer as Miss Northwestern State University.
