FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES- Northwestern State University will hold a ribbon cutting and open house for the newly renovated Family and Consumer Sciences Building and Morrison Hall Thursday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. The event is open to the public.

A two-year, $5 million renovation project on Morrison Hall, home of the Louisiana Scholars' College and the Family and Consumer Sciences Building was recently completed. Both buildings were constructed in the early 1950's and did not undergo major renovations until the recent work was done.

"Morrison Hall and the Family and Consumer Sciences Building are important parts of Northwestern. The renovations have given the buildings new life," said NSU President Dr. Randall J. Webb. "Our students, faculty and staff will benefit from these modern buildings which we can all take pride in. I invite alumni and friends of the university to join us and celebrate this occasion."

The first floor of the Family and Consumer Sciences Building has two classrooms, a computer lab funded by student technology fees, a conference room and an early childhood research room. On the second floor, there are two large classrooms, a seminar room, a food preparation lab with a full commercial kitchen, formal dining room, merchandising lab and student lounge. Administrative and faculty offices are also in the building. The formal dining room can be booked by campus departments and organizations.

Morrison Hall has a fully equipped language lab and computer lab. Classrooms also have audiovisual capabilities. A new admissions area is located on the first floor. In addition to classrooms, faculty and administrative offices, Morrison Hall also has faculty and student lounges, a conference lab and computer labs. An outdoor classroom was also created in the courtyard between the two buildings.
