NATCHITOCHES - The Louisiana Scholars' College at Northwestern State University will hold its annual Spring Scholars' Day Saturday, March 7, beginning at 9:15 a.m.
Registration will be held in the Orville Hanchey Art Gallery located in the A.A. Fredericks Center for Creative and Performing Arts. The program begins at 9:45 a.m. with an introduction of the College's faculty, who have earned degrees at many of this country's most distinguished universities.
"Scholars' Day give prospective students an excellent opportunity to learn why the Scholars' College offers a unique educational experience," said Dr. Margaret Cochran, director of the Scholars' College. "Since many aspects of our program are individually tailored to help the honors student meet his or her needs, the activities are designed in a manner that allows participants to meet and get to know the Scholars' College's students and faculty."
Sessions will be offered for both prospective students and their parents. The sessions for parents will cover university services including extracurricular and student activities, housing and available student support services.
At 10:45 a.m., participants can take part in an actual class. Most of the classes offered by the Scholars' College are seminar-type classes allow students to actively participate and get to know faculty personally. At 11:30 a.m., Scholars' College students will lead a panel discussion for prospective students while their parents will tour historic Natchitoches.
Beginning at 1:15 p.m. a seminar on financial aid and scholarships will also be held. At 1:45 p.m., student interviews will begin along with tours of the campus and residence halls.
The Louisiana Scholars' College is the state's designated honors college in the liberal arts and sciences.
