FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES- As the class of 2004 settles into college life, this is the optimal time for 2005 high school seniors to begin their college scholarship search.

"Students often ask me the best place to begin their scholarship search," said Jamila Maxie, assistant director of university recruiting for the Louisiana Scholars' College at Northwestern State University. "I advise them that colleges and universities are a good starting point to look for scholarships."

As the state's designated honors college, the Louisiana Scholars' College offers its students outstanding scholarship packages. The majority of incoming freshmen in the Scholars' College receive some type of scholarship.

LSC offers its own award to students who apply to the college and meet the scholarship criteria. The Louisiana Scholars' College Scholarship is a four-year award. To qualify for this award students must graduate from high school with a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, score a 28 or above on the ACT (1240 or above on the SAT), and be fully accepted into the Scholars' College.

Northwestern offers a variety of scholarships that includes academic, leadership, performance and ROTC scholarships. Awards include both traditional scholarships and work-study assignments. Louisiana residents may apply their Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) awards to expenses at the Scholars' College.

To receive the best scholarship package award, students are encouraged to apply before the December 1 scholarship priority deadline. The Scholars' College admissions application is also the application for scholarships.
