FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES - The jazz will be hot and the gin will be cold as the Northwestern State University Summer Dinner Theatre presents “Murdered by the Mob!”, a comedy murder mystery set in the Roaring 20s. Tickets are $20, which includes a four-course meal and the show.
The stage is set at D’Angelo’s, a Chicago speakeasy, where theatre-goers will enjoy dinner while solving a hilarious gangster mystery. The dinner is served to guests by a zany cast of characters -- including master of ceremonies Johnny Biscotti, played by Eric Duhon of Lakes Charles, and Lydia LaJoy, played by Rebecca Russell of Alexandria -- who provide clues to help guests solve the evening’s crime. The audience is given bribe money to entice “suspects” to give clues and a clue dossier, which contains riddles and puzzles to decipher to be eligible for the “Super Sleuth” prize. The boss himself, Danny D’Angelo, played by Vincent Sisley of Natchitoches will also make an appearance, along with several of his business associates.
Written by Jim Dabb and directed by NSU Coordinator of Theatre/Artistic Director Scott Burrell, this year’s mystery production will also star Gwen Mahan of Gonzales as Betty, Robert Johnson of Lake Charles as Pretty Boy and Regan McLellan of Gloster as Butch.
“This show will be appropriate because of the popularity of ‘The Sopranos,’” said Burrell. “It is unique and popular because the dinners are served by the cast and the audience plays an active role in solving the mystery.”
Shows will take place July 25-28, Aug. 1-4 and Aug. 8-11 at 6 p. m. in the A.A. Fredericks Fine Arts Auditorium on the NSU campus with catering by Sodexho Campus Services. Reservations are recommended. To make reservations, call the NSU ticket office at (318) 357-4483.
