FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -The third annual Northwestern State University-Serenity Point Deer Hunt will take place Jan. 8-10 sponsored by NSU Alumni Dan and Lilly Chase, NSU Alumni Association, NSU Foundation and NSU Athletic Association. Reservations should be made by Dec. 1.
The Serenity Point Deer Hunt is a fundraiser to benefit the Serenity Point Athletic Scholarship by Dan and Lilly Chase and the Serenity Point alumni Scholarship by Dan and Lilly Chase. Donors who contribute $3,500 to the University Foundation receive a three-day hunting trip at Serenity Point, a lodge in the Tunica Hills owned by Mr. and Mrs. Chase. The trip includes meals, accommodations and hunting for deer and wild hogs in the wooded hills along the Mississippi River in enclosed stands with comfortable chairs.
Serenity Point is situated on the highest point between the Natchez Mississippi River Bridge and the Gulf of Mexico. Each guest will have a private room with a full bath and be able to enjoy the lodge's sweeping views of the Mississippi River and surrounding forests. NSU Men's Head Basketball Coach Mike McConathy and Lady Demons Soccer Coach Jimmy Mitchell will be special guests.
"The cost is $3,500 per gun, but donors can bring a spouse or children with them for that amount. We have about three or five spaces available," said Jill Bankston, assistant director of Development.
Each guest will be provided with a private room with a full bath, all meals and beverages and four three-hour hunts. In addition, guests will be able to enjoy the lodge's sweeping views of the Mississippi River and surrounding forests.
Chase is a 1957 graduate of Northwestern, where he lettered in football. He is a member of the NSU Foundation Board of Directors, the NSU President's Council and the Select 100. Mr. and Mrs. Chase established the Dan and Lilly Chase and daughters Marty Causey and Lisa Chase Endowed Professorship in the College of Education. The Chases have supported the university by hosting alumni meetings and other NSU recruitment events at their home. Last year he was awarded an honorary doctorate of humanities from NSU.
