"In addition to the learning that takes place in the classroom, our students also learn a great deal in activities outside the classroom," said Patric DuBois, director of the Wellness, Recreation and Activity Center at NSU and chair of the campus committee planning Service Week. "During this week, people will see how active Northwestern is in helping make our community a better place."

Northwestern's Student Activities Board will begin a canned food drive on Monday. On Tuesday at 7 p.m., a screening of the film "An Inconvenient Truth" will be held in The Alley of the Student Union. A discussion led by Dr. Greg Granger, director of the School of Social Sciences at Northwestern, will follow the film.

Northwestern students will serve lunch at the Natchitoches Parish Council on Aging Wednesday. At 6 p.m., Phi Beta Sigma will sponsor an All-Greek basketball fundraiser to benefit Goodwill Industries at the WRAC.

On Thursday, students, faculty and staff will be encouraged to do a random act of kindness for others and then "Pay it Forward." Student organizations will conduct a city wide canned food drive that day. Baptist Collegiate Ministries will conduct a cleanup on a local cemetery and hold a canned food drive for the Loving Care Mission. The Wesley Foundation plans a cleanup at the Women's Resource Center. At 5:30 p.m., the Helping Hands Organization will hold a Fall Festival for children in pre-K through 5th grade in the Student Union Ballroom.

Friday's events include the NSU Vet Tech Club's "Bathe a Dog Day" in Room 103 of Bienvenu Hall from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Campus organizations will also sponsor a cleanup day on campus and at the Council on Aging.
