NATCHITOCHES - The cast for the NSU Summer Desert Theatre production of "Little Shop of Horrors" has been announced by co-directors Dr. Jack Wann and Chrissy Wright. The play will be presented July 24 - August 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Theatre West. Tickets are $9.

"Little Shop of Horrors" is a "gleefully gruesome musical" in which Seymour, a florist's assistant allows his craving for fame and fortune to seduce him into playing nursemaid to a man-eating plant. Events surrounding the plant's demands for more and more are accompanied by witty parodies of 60's music. Between bites the carnivorous Audrey II, named for Seymour's secret love, brings down the house singing rhythm and blues. "Little Shop of Horrors" is based on a Roger Corman film. The original version in the 1960's featured the screen debut of Jack Nicholson. The second version in the 1980's starred Steve Martin, Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene.

Members of the cast are Patrick Thomassie of New Iberia as Seymour, Shelley Colvin of Winnfield as Audrey and Carla Hallock of Longview, Texas, Terrence Daniels of New Orleans and Amy Magourick of West Monroe as the Ronnettes. Also in the cast are Clayton Chauvin of Abbeville as Orin the dentist and Cory Pichoff of Morgan City as Mushnik. Eric Englehart of New Orleans will be the voice of the plant and Dana Duhon of Abbeville and Keith Franklin of Shreveport will be the puppeteers. Franklin will also play a male customer

April Gentry of Morrilton, Ark. will be Bernstein and Sarah Blum of Lafayette will play Snip. Other members of the cast include Melissa Jenneman of Slidell as Mrs. Luce, Duke Ponds of Tullos as Martin and Wino #2, Eric DeFratis of Natchitoches as Wino #1 and Erin Tatum of Shreveport as Bag Lady. Also in the cast are Janin Snead of Natchitoches as the reporter, Aaron Kinchen of Baton Rouge as Radio Guy and an Asian gentlemen, Carin Link of Covington and Christel Carter of Delhi as customers. Duhon, Link and Snead will also play skid row denizens.

Blum will also be stage manager, and Gentry will be assistant director.
