NATCHITOCHES -Pianist Eun Soo Son will perform at Northwestern State University Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. The recital is part of the Louisiana Piano Series International. Dr. Nikita Fitenko, an assistant professor of piano at NSU, is artistic director of the series.
Tickets are $10. NSU students and any elementary and secondary school students in Louisiana are admitted free.
Son will perform an all Mozart recital. She has been featured as soloist with several major symphony orchestras, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. Son has performed at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, New York, General San Martin Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, Casal de Metge Hall in Barcelona, Great Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg and Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow.
She was a prizewinner of numerous international competitions such as the Busoni International Piano Competition, Senigalia International Piano Competition, D'angello Young Artist International Piano Competition, Three Rivers International Piano Competition, and Maryland University International Piano Competition. She has also been awarded the "Musician of Today" award by The Six Critics Group in Seoul.
Son has recorded the Rachmaninoff Second concerto with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra with Mark Ermler as conductor. Her performance of Schumann piano solo works has also been issued on CD by Korean Broadcasting Station as a part of the "Musicians of Korea" series.
After coming to the United States at the age 11 to further
her musical education, she received the Bachelor and the Master's
Degree of Music, as well as the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree
from the Julliard School. She is an assistant professor of music
at Han Yang University in Seoul, Korea.
