NATCHITOCHES ­ Nathan Jennings of Pineville and Theresa Renee Stallings Turner of Bossier City were the top ranking graduates at Northwestern State University's spring commencement exercises held Friday, May 6 in Prather Coliseum.

Jennings and Stallings each graduated with a grade point average of 4.0. Stallings received a Bachelor of Music Education. Jennings received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. A Distinguished Military Graduate, Jennings was commissioned into the U.S. Army.

The university awarded 786 degrees during the ceremonies, the largest number in school history. During the 2004-2005 academic year, Northwestern awarded 1,562 degrees, which is the most given in a single academic year in the university's 121-year history.

The commencement speaker was Daniel Lee Chase, owner and chief executive officer of Dan Chase Taxidermy Supply Company. Chase also received an honorary doctorate of humanities.

A posthumous Master of Education was presented to Hope Elaine Goff Diaz. A posthumous Associate of General Studies was presented to Terrah A. Beebe.

Faculty marshals were Dr. Stan Chadick, Dr. Kristine Coreil and Dr. Fraser Snowden.
