FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES- The Northwestern State University chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) was selected as an Outstanding SPS Chapter for the 2000-2001 school year.
According to Dr. Paul Withey, head of the chemistry and physics department at NSU, this is the third time in four years that the NSU chapter has won this award.
"Our chapter is honored to have again received this award," said Mark Lentz, chapter president. "The Society of Physics Students is an outstanding program of which our chapter is extremely proud to take part."
Less than five percent of the SPS chapters nationwide are honored, less than one chapter per state. Selection is based on the depth and breadth of SPS activities conducted by the chapter in area such as physics research, public science outreach, physics tutoring programs, hosting and representation at physics meetings and providing social interaction for chapter members.
"The NSU chapter has a history of being a very active chapter," said Dr. David Mitchell, assistant professor of physics and SPS chapter advisor. "We plan to continue with this tradition."
