FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES-Students from outside Louisiana can take advantage of a unique scholarship opportunity available from Northwestern State University.

Eligible students can qualify for an out-of-state waiver scholarship worth more than $2,937 a semester. That is in addition to other scholarships prospective students could receive.

Criteria include a composite score of 21 on the ACT or 990 on the SAT and a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.25. Students must also have a math sub score of 460 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT and a verbal sub score of 440 on the SAT or an English sub score of 18 on the ACT.

"Northwestern State is a public university run like a private institution. We have a variety of academic offerings but provide personalized attention," said NSU Director of Admissions Jana Lucky. "Northwestern has small class sizes, most courses have no more than 30 students and the faculty take the time to know each student's name. The university also has more than 120 clubs and organizations and a Division I athletic program with nationally ranked teams."

Students with higher ACT or SAT scores may qualify for additional scholarships that can greatly reduce the cost of a college education. Performance scholarships for students in band, theatre spirit groups or athletics are also available.

All of Northwestern State's eligible academic programs have gained accreditation from national or international accrediting bodies. This means that NSU's academic programs are on par with those at any institution.

The priority scholarship deadline for out of state students is March 1. For more information, call NSU's Office of Admissions at (800) 327-1903 or go to www.nsula.edu/admissions.
