FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES- The enrollment period for the Fall 2004 semester of STEPUP (Success Through Early Preparation for Undergraduate Programs) at Northwestern State University has begun.
Qualified high school seniors in STEPUP can earn up to 18 hours of college credit during their normal school day. As many as 12 hours are available through the Louisiana Virtual School. Course offerings include six hours of English, six hours of math, three hours of computer applications and three hours of fine arts. The courses offered are within the Louisiana Board of Regents Transfer Matrix and can be used at NSU. They may also transfer to other Louisiana public colleges and universities.
Students at Grant, Leesville, Natchitoches Central and North DeSoto high schools will be able to take live classes this fall. The classes will be taught by qualified teachers, who meet the same standards as other adjunct faculty at the university. Those enrolled in the program must meet minimum grade point average and ACT requirements.
All courses are available at a reduced tuition rate of $100, savings of more than $300 over the regular tuition rate. There is also a $20 application fee.
This will be the fourth year of STEPUP. Last year, 88 students around the state were enrolled. The program is funded under a Distance Education Initiative (DEI) grant from the Board of Regents.
