                       FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern Summer Theatre will perform three plays including the first one done for children beginning in June.

The musical “Quilters” will be presented on June 20-23 and 27-30 at 7:30 p.m. in Theatre West. “Murdered by the Mob,” a roaring 20’s gangster murder mystery is set for July 25-28 and August 1-4 and 8-11 at 6 p.m. in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. “Go Jump in the Lake,” a play for children, will be performed on July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4 at 1 p.m. in Theatre West.

“Quilters” by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek uses a legacy quilt to illustrate the lives of American pioneers, focusing on a woman making a quilt to pass on to her daughters. Each pattern and scrap of fabric contains a piece of history.

Music, dance and drama are used in “Quilters” to illustrate the life of women on the frontier. In the end, the various patches are assembled into one brilliantly colorful quilt.

Barry Stoneking will be the director and choreographer with musical direction by Michael Rorex.

Tickets for quilters are $15, which includes the show and dessert. The play may not be appropriate for young children.

“Murdered by the Mob,” is set in D’Angelo’s, the hottest speakeasy in Chicago. The play is similar to past summer productions like “Murder Rides Again” and  “Death by Disco” in which the audience becomes part of the performance and helps solve the mystery. Playgoers will be able to experience the mafia and a great meal. You can meet the Don who will make an offer no one can refuse. The audience can also mingle with mobsters and molls and break bread and heads with wise guys and mafia princesses.

Tickets are $20 for a four-course meal and the show. “Murdered by the Mob” is appropriate for all ages. Scott Burrell will be the director.

“Go Jump in the Lake,” is a story of a young boy named Ferdinand, a skunk named Bartholomew and a dragon named Jennifer who learn to appreciate their own uniqueness and defend themselves with non-violence. Elizabeth Maxwell will be the director. Tickets are $4. This play is for children ages 4-13.
