NATCHITOCHES- The NSU Theatre will present the Rodgers and Hart musical "Boys from Syracuse" Feb. 21-28 at 7:30 p.m. in Theatre West. NSU Coordinator of Theatre Dr. Jack Wann is the director. Tickets are $5 and free for NSU students with I.D.
"Boys From Syracuse" with the book by George Abbott is based on Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errors." It was the first musical based on a Shakespearean play. In planning the production, Wann added a twist by creating a play within a play. The audience will be greeted by a setting depicting a hotel ballroom as the site of a backer's audition for the upcoming musical "Boys from Syracuse." The principal production team is at the audition along with the guests who along with hotel employees who are invited to read the show which then begins.
The play is set in ancient Greece and is the story of Antipholus and his wily servant Dromio who travel to Ephesus in search of their twins from whom they were separated in a shipwreck. The two are mistaken for brothers and the farce begins. The show contains musical hits such as "This Can't Be Love," "Falling in Love With Love," "Sing for Your Supper" and many more.
Members of the cast include Adam Louis Breaux of Harahan as Antipholus of Ephesus, Michael Batusic of Hobe Sound, Fla., as Dromio of Ephesus, Colin Trahan of Folsom as Antipholus of Syracuse, Christopher Ware of Natchitoches as Dromio of Syracuse, Camill Sotomayor of Copperas Cove, Texas as Adriana, Karen Burns of Alexandria as Luciana and Kristin Jones of Vero Beach, Fla. as Luce.
Also in the cast are James Palmer of Mansfield as Aegeon, Jacob
Smith of Monroe as the Duke, Joe Naples of West Palm Beach, Fla.
as Sergeant, Levi Petree of Lafayette as Angelo, Jamaal Hill of
Natchitoches as Tailor, Jessica Marasco of New Orleans as Coutesan
and Robyn Eddy of Shreveport, Amie Clarke of Blue Springs, Mo.
and Julia Higginbotham of Natchitoches as maids.
Other members of the cast are Teddric Matthews of Houma as an apprentice, Brandon Wilks of New Orleans as a Merchant of Syracuse, Kyle Lemaire of Abbeville as a Corporal, Katie Guell of New Orleans, Alicia Schulz of Metairie and Camille Suggs of Cresent City, Fla. as Courtesans, Kerry Lambert of Gonzales as Sorcerer, Darcy Malone of New Orleans as Seeress and John Snow of Gloster as a Merchant of Ephesus.
Alaine Claire of Ruston is the assistant to the director. Hector Guivas of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., is the stage manager and Lucas Comeaux of New Iberia is the assistant stage manager.
Set design and technical direction is done by Tom Shorrock with costuming by Sharon Foster and lighting by Chris Foster. Ed Brazo is the choreographer with music direction and accompaniment by Mollye Otis. Michael Rorex will do additional accompaniment.
