FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES -Twenty-one participants will be honored for completing an 18-week training program that could turn welfare recipients into job holders at a graduation ceremony to be held Friday, June 12 at 1 p.m. at the Ben Johnson Auditorium on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Natchitoches.

The training program began in February and was developed by Northwestern State University's Office of Continuing Education, Alliance Compressors and the Louisiana Department of Social Services' Office of Family Support in cooperation with the Ben Johnson Education Center.

Participants in the program spent the first nine weeks working to improve their math and reading skills using self-paced computer instructional assisted programs. This part of the program took place in multimedia computer labs at the Ben Johnson Education Center. During the second nine weeks they were taught industrial skills including applied mathematics and blueprint reading.

Upon satisfactory completion of the program, participants will be eligible for employment with Alliance Compressors, which has opened a manufacturing facility in Natchitoches.
