FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES- Northwestern State University will hold the first two meetings to discuss its "Transitions" program next week. The initial meeting will be in Baton Rouge Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Thomas Jefferson Room A, (Room 136-A) of the Claiborne Building at 1201 North Third Street. The second meeting is in Shreveport Thursday Sept. 6 at 9:30 a.m. in Room LB 216 of NSU's Nursing Education Center at 1800 Line Avenue.

"Transitions" is a program designed to help students meet new admissions standards which begin in 2005. Under the new standards, students must complete the TOPS Curriculum, require no more than one developmental course, and meet one of the following criteria: a minimum grade point average of 2.0, a minimum composite ACT score of 20, graduate in the top half of their high school class. "Transitions," is designed around concepts developed in a successful national program.

Schools can sign up for "Transitions" through May. Training sessions will begin in June, explaining to teachers the curriculum and expectations. Students will not receive college credit for taking part in the program. After a sufficient score on NSU's placement exam, students may bypass developmental requirements.

There is no cost for schools or students to take part in "Transitions." For more information, call (318) 357-5721 or e-mail nealys@nsula.edu.
