FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -Two student researchers from Northwestern State University represented NSU at the recent South Central Beta Beta Beta Science Honor Society Conference, held in Oklahoma.
Anna Westergard of Glenmora and Angela Rivers Ezernack of Zwolle represented Northwestern at the conference, where they met fellow undergraduate researchers from institutions throughout the south.
Westergard won first place in her session, which entitled her to attend the national conference next year in Florida. Her topic was "Divalent Cation Control of Flagellar Motility in African Trypanosomes." She was also elected Tri-Beta regional parliamentarian.
Ezernack's presentation was on "Flagellar Dynamics and cell motility in African Trypanosomes."
"I am proud of both of them. Their participation in this conference was totally self-motivated and self-organized, which makes the experience that much more valuable," said Dr. Nathan Hutchings, assistant professor of biology at NSU and principal investigator on the research projects.
