NATCHITOCHES- Dennis C. Tucker, director of libraries at Northwestern State University, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Louisiana Chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. He will take office July 1. Tucker will serve as vice-president/president-elect from July 1 until June 30, 2003 and as president from July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004
The Association of College and Research Libraries is a professional association of academic librarians and other interested individuals. The organization is dedicated to enhancing the ability of academic library and information professionals to serve the information needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching and research.
Before coming to Northwestern, Tucker was director of Tucker & Associates Library Consulting Services and an adjunct faculty member of the School of Library and Information Science at Indiana University. He was a school library consultant and member liaison at Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority (INCOLSA) in Indianapolis, Ind.
While at INCOLSA, Tucker was director of Project Hi-Net, a $2 million grant to improve automation in 31 high schools in Indianapolis, which he co-authored. He was a library automation consultant for INCOLSA for six years, providing consulting and training to libraries from throughout the state which were planning or undergoing the automation process.
Tucker has experience in school, public, and academic libraries
in various positions ranging from serials librarian and reference
librarian to director. He worked at the University of Notre Dame,
and was library director at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind.
